Xbox 360 Light Issues: The Orange Power Supply Light

Your Xbox console communicates with you using a light system, your power supply will glow either a red, orange, or green hue; red to be avoided like the plague, and obviously a green light being ideal. However, if you encounter an orange light, do not fret. This article contains some reliable tips on how to deal with these pesky lights, and how to go about getting back into green.

An illuminated orange light on the power supply is an easy fix. The issue can range from one of two things: either the console is turned off, or the more likely reason, the power supply is disconnected from the console. Essentially, all the orange light indicates is that the Xbox is in a state of sleep, or stand-by mode.

What can confuse many people is the fact that even with the console turned off, it still glows orange. The explanation for this is because the power supply cord may not be properly inserted completely inside the power socket of the console. A firm push can remedy this. However, if the orange light is coupled with an unresponsive console, there may likely be a problem with the console itself.

If this is the case, the whole frightening red light topic may develop in your head. Don’t panic. There are some basic repair steps that you should take to fix this brightly colored foe. First, start by completely powering off your Xbox 360 console. Then, disconnect the cord that connects the power supply to the console.

Prior to disconnecting the cord connecting the power supply to the console, first you must unplug the power cord from the wall socket. After doing so, disconnect the power cord from the console. Then, reconnect all of the cords and attempt to turn the console back on. If your console still won’t cooperate, you may then want to refer to the troubleshooting steps that can be found in the Microsoft knowledge base article.

To prevent further complications in the future, make sure that all of the openings in the power supply are free to ventilate. Make sure you do not put the power supply on a bed or sofa as this will block the ventilation openings. Also, a commonly made mistake is to put the power supply in a confined space like a bookcase or rack. Lastly, do not put it on a stereo speaker or heat source that can radiate heat, as this will in turn heat up the Xbox 360, and further frustrate you when that power supply doesn’t glow a comforting green.
