How to Cook the Perfect Chicken Curry
Chicken curry, also known as curry chicken, is a very popular dish and it is one of the most delicious meals you can make with boneless chicken. There are many different types of chicken curry including Thai curries, Indian curries, Chinese curries and more. Curry is a dish that you can experiment with, adding more or less chili, altering the balance of spices and using interesting vegetables and other additions.
Different Kinds of Curry
Curry is different wherever you go. In Indian cuisine, for example, a curry is a dish with the consistency of soup. It is made with chickpea flour, spices, yogurt, and clarified butter. In Thailand the word curry refers to meat, fish or vegetables cooked in a spicy sauce.
Different regions make their curries with different ingredients. For example, a Malay curry will have bay leaves and coconut milk in it. A Tamil curry will be a combination of shallow fried fish or meat and vegetables cooked with dry spices. A Punjabi curry will have a lot of butter and cream and use wheat instead of rice.
Some curry powder mixes contain turmeric, which makes the curry yellow. Pepper, coriander, ginger, tamarind, pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, garlic, chilies, and nutmeg are also popular curry recipe ingredients. Indian and Thai curries can be green, yellow, or red. Green curries are made from green chilies, red chilies are made from red chilies and yellow curries are made mainly with turmeric and cumin but might contain hot peppers or pepper flakes as well.
A boneless chicken curry might be described as hot and spicy, fragrant or fruity, depending on the ingredients and spices used. So how do you go about making a delicious curry out of some boneless chicken, some vegetables, and some spices?
Tips for Cooking Chicken Curry
You should always try to use authentic curry spices rather than a readymade paste or powder. It is easy to find chicken curry ingredients in Asian grocery stores or large general stores.
Do not be afraid to experiment with your curries. Curry has been experimented on a lot throughout history and it is a good idea to try out different spice combinations and become familiar with spices so you can make up your own curry recipes or adapt existing ones.
Curry is usually served with rice but you can serve it with Indian bread such as roti or naan or with Indian spiced potatoes if you want a change. You can also make a dry curry coating for a boneless chicken recipe rather than a curry sauce. Then you can eat the curried chicken cold the next day or use it for a packed lunch or picnic. No wonder curry is loved all over the world. Its great flavor and versatility make curry a surefire winner.
